Infant hearing loss testing
$ 10.00

Our audiology team tests newborns for hearing loss after they are referred to us for further testing by the Infant Screening Hearing Program. Testing a newborn for hearing loss involves placing four electrodes on the sleeping infant’s head. The electrodes are then connected to a specialised machine that detects the
baby’s brain waves in response to sound. Weak or non-existent brain waves can lead to a diagnosis of hearing loss. Each electrode costs $2.50, and each test involves placing four electrodes on the infant’s head. Your gift of $10 can enable us to test one infant, ensuring hearing loss is identified early.
